September 20, 2014

In an epic match between two singlespeed titans this season, Gordon Wadsworth (Blue Ridge Cyclery Racing) claimed victory and the NUE title, finishing 7:02:57. Nicknamed “Quadsworth” by some of his competitors, Wadsworth knew he needed this win to claim the NUE title.
“My goal was to initiate a move very early that would establish a fast front group and keep motivating them if I had to. Fortunately I didn’t have to because Tinker worked rabbit duty for the first 50 miles or so…

Wadsworth repeats as singlespeed winner
Gordon Wadsworth got his second straight win with 34×19 gearing at Shenandoah this year, 7:45:57, more than a half hour faster than his winning time last year using the same gearing (8:18:42).
With this win, and wins this season at Cohutta, Lumberjack and the Wilderness 101, Wadsworth has positioned himself for an NUE title showdown with the AJ Linnell (Fitzgerald’s Bicycles/Pivot), who also has three wins this season…

National Ultra Endurance (NUE) Series: Lumberjack 100 2014
June 21, 2014
Gordon Wadsworth (Blue Ridge Cyclery Racing) lived up to his nickname “Quadsworth” as he crushed the field at the Lumberjack to finish 6:45:34 in the singlespeed race. With this win and his early season win at Cohutta, Wadsworth has won two out of the last four NUE Races, making him an early favorite to win the SS division.
“A little chit chat revealed we were pretty widely geared across the group. As low as 32×18 and as high as 38×18 but I felt pretty confident in my ‘spin to win’ strategy. Following my pre-ride the day before, my 34×19 revealed flow for days amidst a couple of decent punches on the 33-mile circuit…

Bishop and Simril win Cohutta 100
By: Ryan O’Dell
Gordon Wadsworth, 28, was the only SS to go sub-eight hours on the day. In fact, he was one of just three racers to go sub-eight on the day, as he won the SS in 7:48:35.
“Gerry and I sat at the back of the lead group filing into the singletrack,” said Wadsworth. “Gerry passed as needed to stay tight on the leaders through the flat sections of singletrack and, as soon as the trail tilted up, we kept our momentum into fourth and fifth positions. Much to the entertainment of the leaders, Gerry hit the gas a few times and I answered, putting us into the first two positions early on…

National Ultra Endurance (NUE) Series: Pierre’s Hole 100 2014
August 16, 2014
Linnell won his second straight Pierre’s Hole 100 Singlespeed division in 7:59:48, good enough for third overall. Linnell currently leads the NUE Series with wins at the Bailey Hundo and the Tatanka 100 plus two second place finishes at True Grit and the High Cascades 100.
“Holy crap, this year’s course solidified Pierre’s Hole as my favorite race of the year. So rad!” said Linnell.
Linnell entered the singletrack ahead of Gordon Wadsworth (Blue Ridge Cyclery Racing) and was able to stay within 100 yards or so of the leaders to the top of the Peaked Climb but then he flatted a few switchbacks into an epic descent. “Who flats in the first five miles of a 100-mile race?! So I listened to freewheels buzzing past as I got the hole plugged and got rolling again,” he said…
